Strobe Lighting

Improve the visibility of your car's indicator lights, or give your car a striking aesthetic.

Visible

V0LT strobe lighting systems use the same light heads used by law enforcement and construction vehicles, ensuring your car's strobe lights will be easily visible, even in direct sunlight.

Customizable

V0LT allows you to customize the color, flash pattern, location, and features of each individual light in your car's strobe light system.

Safe

Like all other V0LT installation services, your strobe lighting system will be installed with all the proper wiring, fuses, and other safety measures to ensure absolutely minimal risk of fire, even during an (extremely unlikely) complete system failure.

Servicable

V0LT strobe lighting systems are installed with detachable connectors and labels in order to make future upgrades or adjustments as easy as possible, even if you choose to do them yourself. This also ensures you can bring your car to your mechanic of choice without having to explain how to disconnect the lighting system.

Durable

All strobe lights available in V0LT strobe lighting systems are completely waterproof and impact resistant, and are manufacturered by a well respected brand in the law enforcement industry. The light heads are capable of withstanding direct impacts from rocks at highway speeds, and can be completely submerged.

Unique

V0LT doesn't install or use pre-made lighting kits. Instead, your lighting system is custom built based on your preferences. You can mix and match colors, patterns, sizes, and even control methods to make your system completely unique.

Disclaimers

Simply having strobe lights on your vehicle is not illegal in itself. However, how you use them can be extremely illegal. It should go without saying that using blue and red strobe lights in a public area is completely illegal. White and orange strobe lights are the most legally safe strobe lights, but certain flash patterns are prohibited on public roads.

In short, generally speaking, strobe lights can only be used on private property, and in a context where you are extremely unlikely to be confused for an emergency vehicle.

Firewall Route

  • If you plan to have lights outside of the cabin, but control them from inside, you'll almost certainly need to have cables routed through the firewall of the car.
  • A few cars already have pre-made holes in the firewall for running aftermarket wires. However, many cars have firewalls that are extremely hard to get through.
  • There are alternative options that can be used, although they vary from installation to installation. If you'd like to learn more, don't hesitate to get in contact.

Light Heads

  • Light heads are the core of a strobe lighting system, and are responsible for emitting light of various colors.
  • The light heads of your strobe lighting system can be white, red, purple, green, blue, orange, or any combination of the colors.

Mounting

How your lights are mounted can determine how they look, as well as how much mounting equipment will be necessary. If you have questions about what mounting option you need based on your preferences, don't hesitate to send an email using the contact button above.

    • With surface mounting, your strobe light heads are mounted straight to a plastic surface, like the bumper. With this mounting method, the lights must face the same direction as the mounting surface.

    • A mounting bracket allows the light heads to face more directions relative to the surface they are mounted too. If you want to have your light heads mounted in a recessed area inside the grill or under the car, you'll probably need mounting brackets.

Controls

It goes without saying that you don't want your lighting system to be on all the time. This is where you get to decide how to control your exterior lighting system.

    • If you've previously had an external lighting system, siren, or other V0LT product installed, you may already have a full control panel. You can have your strobe lighting system wired into it.
    • If you don't want to use your strobe lights as traditional strobe lights, and only want to link your light heads to existing lights on your vehicle, like the turn signals, hazard lights, or brakes (see the Turn-Brake-Tail feature below), then pick this option.

    • This option allows you to toggle your entire lighting system on and off with a single switch. This is usually sufficient, but makes future customization and upgrades more difficult and expensive.

    • This is a standard, affordable, reliable way to control your vehicle's strobe lighting system. A simple panel with several switches allows you to individually toggle different lighting zones.
    • If you plan on getting having additional devices installed by V0LT at a later date, this can be a cost effective way to make your car more easily upgradable while keeping all of your controls organized in a centralized location.
    • This switch panel has 4 switches, allowing you to control your entire strobe lighting system, as well as 3 other systems.

    • An extended control panel has 6 switches, allowing you to control even more devices.
    • If you plan on having more automotive electronics installed in the future, this could be a great option.

Features

Since your system is assembled and installed custom by V0LT, you can chose to have additional custom features included with your system.

    • A steady-burn switch allows your strobe lighting system to be temporarily overriden to provide a steady light beam. When the switch is activated, all linked strobe lights will turn constantly on, regardless of whether they were turned off previously, or flashing a certain pattern.
    • Not all light heads need to be linked to a steady-burn switch, should you choose to have one.

    • A turn-brake-tail relay (TBT) relay allows your strobe lights to be linked to existing lights on your car. For example, your strobe lights can be linked to flash with your turn signals, hazard lights, brake lights, parking lights, and more!
    • This feature works independently of whether or not the strobe lights are turned on, allowing you to improve the visiblity of your car's indicator lights on public roads.
    • Not all lights need to be linked to a TBT relay to use the feature. For example, you may only want to link strobe lights on the side of your car to your turn signals without effecting the strobe lights on the front and rear.

    • A master kill-switch is a switch that cuts power to the entire strobe lighting system at a single point. This switch overrides the normal toggle switches used to turn your system on and off.
    • If you plan on getting a strobe lighting system that uses restricted colors, like red and blue, you might consider putting a master kill-switch somewhere that occupants of the car can't access it, like the engine bay. This would allow you to forcefully disable the lighting system on public roads, and require you to exit the vehicle to enable the system. A setup like this would allow you to use your strobe lighting system at private car shows with less risk of legal attention on public roads.

    • If you want to frequently change the flash pattern of each strobe light, you can opt to have pattern buttons installed. Each light has a corresponding button.
    • Each time a pattern button is pressed, the corresponding light will advance to the next pattern in the sequence. Holding the button for 1 to 3 seconds will cause the strobe light to return to the previous pattern.
    • While pattern buttons can add conveinence in some situations, it's generally more cost effective to simply pick a pattern you like during installation, then manually change the patterns with a strip of wire when needed.
